Telling Tales at The Tower
November 2008
The Oxford Shakespeare Company was granted permission by The Historic Royal Palaces to perform a series of short stories at The Tower of London.
This was the first time public performances have been permitted at the extraordinary surroundings of the The Medieval Palace.
The Tales
Mark Twain wrote Adam’s Diary and Eve’s Diary separately in early 1900’s; we abridged both to give a particular take on these classic hilarious stories.
Adam Think we shall have rain…WE? Where did I get that word? ... The new creature uses it…
Eve I’ve got it in the tree again…I do wonder what it is for; I never see it do anything…
The Great Fire of London from Pepys Diaries is incredible to hear, considering Samuel Pepys watched London in flames from the Tower.
Carnacki, The Searcher of the End House by William Hope Hodgson (published in 1910) is an Edwardian supernatural detective specializing in unusual ghosts. He was also a little unusual himself.
Perfect for an intimate evening of listening and laughing.
Alice on The Orient Express
Mothering Sunday 2008
We were delighted to be welcomed onboard the gleaming carriages of the Orient-Express British Pullman for an exceptional Mothering Sunday celebration.
“Surreal humour abounds as The Mad Hatter, March Hare, the Dormouse and even Alice herself are found larger than life and utterly delighted to be taking tea on board the Orient-Express. With charming souvenir programmes and opportunities to find out more about Lewis Carroll and his characters, let this Mothering Sunday embrace the cultured chaos and fun of this timeless classic.”
"Tea with Alice" was one of a series of custom made entertainments for different themed events on board the trains during 2008 and included musical compositions by Nick Lloyd Webber
It was a great day and a huge success with our Board of Directors, Vice-Presidents, Staff and of course our passengers. So thank you for all your hard work to deliver such a quality production in such a challenging environment!
