About Us & Contact
The Oxford Shakespeare Company was founded in 2002 by Charlotte Windmill and Nicholas Green, with Emma Randle joining as Producer in 2008. It has been produced a summer season in Wadham College Gardens every year since its formation, taking over from the ten-year tenure of bold & saucy, making the residency the longest running professional summer theatre event in Oxford.
We have presented over thirty productions and achieved wide critical and audience acclaim.
The Company have performed regularly at many other illustrious venues among them Hampton Court Palace (including being invited to perform the 400th Anniversary production of Macbeth in the Great Hall in 2006), Kensington Palace Gardens (the first commercial theatre company invited to do so), the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew alongside bespoke commissions for The Tower of London and the Banqueting House at Whitehall.
The Gardens at Wadham are a sublime setting for Shakespeare and other classic texts, and provide an added appeal to audiences, both local and visiting. The quality and reputation of the OSC has allowed us to work with pre-eminent directors since its foundation including: Michael Oakley, Mick Gordon, Guy Retallack, Chris Pickles and Bill Bankes Jones, the acclaimed Opera director. We have a reputation for excellence in our field, receiving several Time Out Critics’ Choice and numerous 4*& 5* recommendations from national and local press.
We are particularly well known for the original music that accompanies all our productions many written by our hugely talented current resident composer Nick Lloyd Webber.
